"The True meaning Of Life Is To Plant Trees, Under Whose Shade You Don't Expect To Sit"
Plans For Pathhead Orchard
Along side lavender production we plan to re generate what's left of the orchard. After years of neglect the orchard is in a sorry state but hopefully with some hard work and careful management along side re planting of new stock the orchard will blossom again. Early 2008 saw 40 new fruit trees, mostly apples being planted at Pathhead. A mixture of traditional and some newer varieties were planted. (Details and pictures to be added when time allows) Hopefully this will continue year on year until the orchard is fully stocked again. Next years focus will be on soft fruits like plum and cherry. Apple Blossom Mid May 2008 Some Suckers Have Been Cleared and New Trees Planted. March 2008
Old fruit trees, scrub And suckers. This all needs to be cleared.
New trees planted winter 2006. Currently the orchard has Victoria plum which the Clyde Valley is famous for, Damsons, Bramleys and as yet unidentified pears. Hopefully 2007 will see fruit being harvested and sold from Pathhead for the first time in a few decades. Scottish Natural Heritage commissioned a report in 2004 to determine the condition of Clyde Valley orchards and their importance as a cultural and economic asset to the area. This report has partly been responsible for my desire to re generate the fruit trees at Pathhead. (click on the underline word for a link to the report) Hopefully by joining together we can pull recourses knowledge and funding to make the Clyde valley and viable fruit producing area once again. If you are interested in joining the group or would like more information regarding the group please get in touch via the contact page.

Clyde Valley Orchard Group
To help with the orchard revival, myself and a few other interested orchard owners have joined together and formed The Clyde Valley Orchard Group.
